LiveAsk for Android
Privacy
Last updated September 27, 2026
LiveAsk is an Android app that listens while you talk, spots questions, and shows answers on screen. The iPhone app works differently and has its own policy. This page explains exactly what it collects, where it goes, and what you control. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and there are no analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
The microphone
LiveAsk uses the microphone only while listening is switched on, and shows an ongoing notification the whole time. Audio is turned into text by Android's speech recognition. On phones that support it this happens on the device. On others, Android's speech service (provided by Google) may process the audio under Google's own privacy policy. LiveAsk never saves audio to a file and never uploads audio itself.
Your account
An account is needed to use LiveAsk. We keep your email address, the name you give, a secure hash of your password (never the password itself), and your profile answers (what you mainly use LiveAsk for and how long you like answers). For each device you sign in on, we keep the device model, IP address and sign-in times so you can see and sign out your devices.
What syncs to your account
Your sessions (transcripts, the questions detected, and their answers) and your settings (answer engine, answer style, language, and any persona or notes you write) are saved to your account so they follow you to another phone. Only you can read them. API keys you enter for your own OpenAI or OpenRouter account never leave your phone.
Accounts and synced data are stored with Berth (atberth.com), the backend service that runs LiveAsk, on servers in the United States.
How answers are made
- LiveAsk Cloud (the default): the question, up to two earlier questions and answers from the same session for context, your persona and notes, and your phone's date and time are sent to LiveAsk's server, which asks an AI model provider (Google, Anthropic or OpenAI, through OpenRouter) for the answer. They are used only to answer that question. We count how many Cloud answers you use each day to apply the daily limit; those counts are deleted within two days.
- On this phone: on phones with Google's on-device model, the answer is written on the device and nothing is sent anywhere.
- Your own key: if you add your own OpenAI or OpenRouter key, questions go directly from your phone to that provider under your account and their terms.
Don't ask anything out loud near LiveAsk that you wouldn't want processed this way, and let people around you know when it's listening.
Your controls
- Stop listening at any time from the app or the notification.
- Delete any session, or all of them, from Sessions. Deletes sync to your other devices.
- Export your sessions from Profile.
- Sign out one device, or every device, from Profile.
- Delete your account from Profile › Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, synced sessions and settings, and usage counts from our servers, and erases LiveAsk's data from that phone.
Retention
Your account and synced data are kept until you delete them or delete your account. Deleted accounts are removed immediately; routine server backups roll off within 30 days.
Children
LiveAsk is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Questions or requests: hello@atberth.com.
